Every week we come to the gym 3 or 4 times and count down the days to the weekend off of work. Your weekend can either benefit your fitness, or can be a hindrance and detriment to your fitness. You could binge on Netflix for 11 hours on Sunday, or you could go for a hike or a bike ride.
Here are 2 things you can easily do this weekend to benefit your fitness.
Go for a Hike
There are dozens of great hiking paths in and around Austin. My 2 favorites are Walnut Creek Park off of North Lamar, and Lake Pflugerville. Both offer great views and are a great place to take your dogs or kids.
Hiking and walking also helps to develop your aerobic system, making your body burn fat more efficiently. Additionally, it can help you recover from a long week of training and prepare you for the upcoming week.
Play a Pick Up Game
Grab 3 or 4 people from the gym (you all hang out anyway) and go play a pick up game. The sport doesn’t matter, but get out there and play. Sometimes we spend so much time in the gym that we lose sight of why we exercise, and that’s to be able to do cool stuff!
You can play volleyball at Hanovers in Pflugerville, or pick up basketball at one of many neighborhood courts. Playing a sport moves your body in different planes of motion and forces you to adapt to a changing environment. It’s also great to get the competitive juices flowing somewhere that isn’t the gym.
